Armenian Language

Armenian is one of the oldest languages in the world. Its formation coincides with the formation of the Armenian people and comes from the ancient times. The exact origin of the Armenian language, however, is a little unclear. This is the case with many ancient languages. Serious studies since the 19th century attributed the Armenian language to a large family of Indo-European languages, despite the fact that it forms its own separate branch in this group. Thus, the Armenian language today doesn't have any close related languages.
Even in the Middle Ages, the national language was an important and conscious element of Armenian identity. The Armenian language is also unique in its alphabet, which was created in the fifth century AD. For many centuries the great Armenian writers have created a rich literary heritage, which we are obliged to preserve and pass through generations.
Teachers of the Brooklyn Armenian school, realizing their great mission of preserving the Armenian language and literature outside the homeland, do their best to teach the students their native language, grammar and literature. As the famous Armenian writer Stephan Zoryan said, "The one who does not know his native language well is half person, the one who does not know at all is miserable, a leaf fallen from the tree that shifts from every random wind ...".
